Remote Online Notarization (RON)
It is the process of notarizing documents electronically over the internet. Instead of meeting with a notary in person, signers connect with a commissioned notary through a secure online platform using audio-video technology.
How Remote Online Notarization (RON) Works
-
Identity Verification – If using a U.S. Driver's License or U.S. Passport, your identity is confirmed through methods such as knowledge-based authentication (KBA) questions and credential analysis of a government-issued ID. If you are using a Foreign Passport your Notary will use Biometrics to help validate your identity. You will always need to have your physical I.D. with you for your session.
-
Audio-Video Session – You will meet your Notary through a live video call on the Notaries Remote Online Notary software where the notary witnesses the signing of the document and place you under oath if needed.
-
Electronic Signature, Notary Seal & Notary Signature – You will sign the document electronically while connected to the Notary on a Secure Remote Online Notary Software. The notary applies their digital signature and seal to the electronic document.
-
Recording & Recordkeeping – The session is recorded and securely stored on the Notaries Electronic Journal within their Remote Online Notary Software, providing an added layer of fraud prevention.
-
Additional Requirements - You must have your physical I.D. with you at the time of your session. You must be able to pass the additional identity verification provided either as KBA or Biometrics. And you must be on a device with two-way audio and video communication while connected to a strong Wi-fi or Internet Signal.
Laws Concerning Remote Online Notarization (RON)
-
RON is legal in most U.S. states and recognized nationwide, though some states have specific requirements.
-
Even in states without direct RON laws, documents notarized online by an out-of-state commissioned notary are generally accepted, provided the receiving party allows it.
-
It is always good to confirm with the receiving institution (such as a bank, court, or government office) that they will accept an electronically notarized document, even though RON is widely recognized.

We Have Experience & We Care
Many people think that being a Notary is just simply placing a seal on a document, but it goes much deeper than that. Notaries are not Attorney's and can't practice legal advice- but that doesn't mean they can't or shouldn't assist you completing your documents properly.
At Unlimited Ink Notary we are perfectionist and we only contract with Notaries who are well trained and well versed in their craft. We also only partner with Notaries who understand how to use their Remote Online Notary software properly so that you have a smoother experience.
If given the opportunity when you book, we'll review your documents prior to the signing. Make sure the Notary understands how to sign them properly & when the session is complete our quality control team will review your documents to ensure they've been executed properly. If anything goes wrong - we'll help you resign them again at no cost!
We Are Not Overbooked or Overrun by Demand
Many of the U.S. Consulates are just not able to keep up with today's demand for notarizations. As the world is embracing security more and more and more Notaries are being called into duty to help validate identity and willingness to sign, more people all over the world need Notary services. With only so many people on staff at any given Consulate or Embassy there's just a shortage creating long wait times, sometimes up to eight weeks to get a document notarized.
With Remote Online Notarization we can generally get you scheduled and connected to a Notary within a few hours.
We Also Offer Document Translation and Apostille Services Should You Need Your Documents Translated or Apostilled
We work well with foreign governments around the world, and we contract some of the most brilliant, native speaking, translators & Apostille facilitators within the U.S. If your need goes beyond having a document Notarized, we can assist you with getting it done quickly, correctly, and cost effectively.
Lastly, We Are Proud to Charge Less than the U.S. Consulate & Still Pay Our Notaries Fair Fees
We are well aware you have choices. That's one of the things that makes U.S. and Online Enterprise so great. However, many online Notary companies are not paying U.S. Notaries fair fees for their expertise and their work. We are happy to report that nearly all of the fees you pay for your services go toward our workers. We only keep a very small "management fee." This ensures our contractors are happy and are willing to give you their best efforts when working with you and your important documents.
