We Know that Finding a Notary Who Services Jails Can Be Difficult and Costly! This is why we offer flat rates for each jail we service based on location. Our Notaries Will Treat Your Inmate with Care and Respect!
Please note: It is important for you to examine the forms you wish to have notarized by the inmate and understand the following:
-
It is ideal to schedule your appointment as early as possible in the day to ensure the Notarization can take place. Jails often go on lock-down throughout the day for one reason or another. Scheduling as early as possible in the day ensures that your Notary gets into the jail without any hassle. Many jails also have extremely long wait times to see an inmate. Which is why our flat rate includes a four hour wait time to cover the Notary waiting to see the inmate.
-
The inmate must be aware you are sending a Notary to the Jail, what the document is for, and agree with you ahead of booking the service they will be willing to sign the document. No refunds will be issued if the inmate is unaware or refuses to sign the document.
-
You must inspect the documents you wish to send to the jail to be Notarized to see if the document requires additional witnesses other than the Notary Public. Often times we are able to have a guard sign as a witness, however, it is always suggested, if possible, to use forms that only call for a Notary Public to witness the document. Acting as a witness is entirely up to the jail & the guard. If the jail, or the guard, refuses to act as a witness for your document and you have not added a second Notary added to your appointment the Notary will not be able to complete your assignment, and no refund will be issued.
-
Please make sure you speak with the inmate prior to scheduling your appointment to ensure they will be at the jail. If they are pending a court date you should know when that is to ensure the Notary does not show up when they are gone. For long-term inmates you also want to make sure they do not have scheduled work. We've found outside of these two items that the best time to schedule your appointment is Monday through Friday 10 am to 3 pm to ensure the Notary can be in and out for your appointment.
-
Many jails have started to forbid inmates from using pens to sign their names, even if provided by a Notary or Attorney. Your Notary will always sign in Ink; however, you must be aware the document may be signed in pencil by the inmate. Currently, we cannot find any laws against a notarized signature becoming invalid if signed in pencil. In fact, we have found federal laws (and we are not practicing legal advice here) that states: 'Anything that marks the paper can be a signature. Pencil is not favored because it can smudge and be erased. But a signature made with pencil is as valid as a signature in pen.'
Please note that Notaries are Not Attorneys and cannot provide legal advice. This includes helping to select which document you may use for your inmate services. However, we have partnered with LawDepot to help you find some of the most popular forms used such as: Power of Attorney
We service all Jails that allow visitors during visiting hours Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm. Please give at least 2 hours' notice when booking. If you are unable to meet the Notary at the Jail to obtain the document. You may upload a shipping label from UPS or FedEx to this order using the upload button to have the document shipped to you. Please note, we often suggest clients obtain at least two copies of documents if you expect the inmate to be incarcerated for a long time as you may need to present a Power of Attorney in multiple locations that will hold it for a few days, or in case you lose one.
